my ringneck laid 2 eggs a about a fortnight ago- and i thought that they were dummies because i only have one other ringneck(female), a spotted turtle dove and this whole horde of pijjies (if any of you readers read my opal's obituary).
anyhow, for some WEIRDO reason they hatched and i dont know what the heck is going on!!!!!!!!
is my supposedly other female dove male?
could she have mated with a pigeon?
did she mate with the turtle dove?????????

the babies look like normal dove squabs and i was looking to see if any other of the birds were trying to take care of it...but my little mother dove is raising them alone.

Oh, and i don't have a strong light to candle the eggs so thats why i left them in the cage.

Most likely your other dove is a male, I would think.
Can you post some pics of the babies?

Congratulations on your OOPS babies. We all have one or two of them.

If you are really in doubt as to whether they are fertile and you don't want babies, replace them with REAL dummy eggs, wooden or plastic.

You really don't need a strong light to candle the eggs, just take them to a dark room or closet and use a flashlight to shine on the back of them and you can easily see any veins around 5th day.

Pictures would be great.
