Hello,
I have a pair on their first nest. I've been reading others' posts, and it sounds like you somehow clean the birds' nesting area.
There is an open egg shell outside the nest now, so we may have a baby bird! But the male sits on the nest during the day and is very defensive of it. I'm able to slowly sweep around the nest, with him jabbing at me the whole time.
What do you do to clean the nests and how do you go about it? These birds are ferals I've adopted.

Leave the cleaning until the babies have fledged. All those hardened droppings around the nest will form a solid structure. You can't remove the nesting material either, babies need something to grip onto.

Ok! Thank you for responding!
I was trying to get a peek to verify the nest was adequate to prevent spraddle legs and to make sure the nest didn't have poo in it, but I will leave that up to the parents unless I notice a problem
