Hi I am new here and I need a little help with my pigeons. I currently own three capuchines. They are really good looking birds and I just got them yesterday. My step-father and I, Swamp Yankee, have owned homer pigeons for about a month now and they have been doing good. But I have not the slightest idea on how to take care of the capuchines. I'm new to taking care of pigeons. I know the basics like feeding them, giving them water, and cleaning their coop. We picked up some powder today to put on them so they don't get lice. But I don't know what type of medications to give them so they stay healthy. Do you guys think you could give me some names of stuff that I can buy in order for them to stay healthy or anything else I may need to take care of them? If so I would really appreciate it.
Hi and welcome to the forum.
As with every other thing in life, prevention is better than cure. Feeding, cleaning and mineral supplements are key to healthy pigeons, no matter beeed and color.
I would suggest you get basic medicines just in case that they get sick.
Trichomonas - Metronidazole
Cocci - Clazuril
Worms - Praziquantel
Bacteria - Doxycicline
There are some other stuff you can put in your first aid kit, you can check related posts, but this is basic. If you take propper care of your birds, you may never need these.
Alright thank you so much. I believe we also picked up Praziquantel and Clazuril today. I will make sure I get the Metronidazole and Doxycicline. Also I make sure they are properly taken care of so I guess I might never need these but I will keep them just in case of an emergency. Once again, thank you so much. I really appreciate it.
Hi Tyler, good to meet you, thiss ite is great and if you need help on specifics you can also check back thru previous threads which are often really helpful, I know I did this when I was looking at plants that can be harmful to pigeons. Best of luck with your birds, be great if you could post some photo's if you get chance, M.
I will post some pictures of them ASAP. It's currently snowing out and they're currently in their inside coop so they are nice and warm so I'll go out in an hour and then post some pictures.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
