Hello, I have been reading alot on this site and have enjoyed it. I do have a few questions and if permitted would like to ask here first, just to get some comments and a little advice. First of all, I have cared for birds before, but it has been a long time ago. As kids, my friends had pigeons and I enjoyed the hobby with them. I want to get some here very soon, as soon as my loft is done. I should be ready within a couple of weeks. OK, questions,
1. Anyone around middle Tennessee? Seems like everyone is either Far West or Far East.
2. Anyone on here wanting to sell a few birds? I'd like some white homers to start with.
3. Can I keep a couple different breeds as long as I keep them from cross breeding? Do they all get along together?
thanks for letting me ask a few questions and I hope to get going and learn a great deal from this forum.

1. Sorry cant help you there :) i live in utah

2. I have white homers, but I don't think I will be able to sell you any, but there are plenty of members on here with white homers, that are bound to see this thread. There might be some posts in the birds for sale section also.

3. I think that would be alright. Infact, I think it is alright if different breeds pair up and lay eggs, but you should replace them with fake ones. or you can just force pair them with their own breeds. And as far as I know all get along, but some are bigger so they will most likely be a little rough on the smaller breeds until a "pecking order" is established in the loft.

I hope you will post pics of your loft progress, we all love pics here. :)

your best bet is to decide on what breed you want and then go from there to find someone that may have some of that breed.

some breeds are shy and and do not get along with larger more robust breeds so it depends, it is best to keep small breeds with easy going larger breeds and robust ones that can be bossy with like breeds. but you can mix them if they all seem to get along. it is best to ask the breeder of one type and see what they say.
Glad your getting into pigeons. There is just not enough pigeon people in this world!
Check Craigslist for pigeon (pets and Farm Stuff for sale). Let us know how you make out.
I keep my breeding homers with my white utility kings. They get along all right. Best of luck.
Thanks for the replies. I will probably go ahead and try to find some white homers first then. maybe later I can add on to the loft and have it separate to separate the breeds. Do you have any reccomendations of where to buy some whites?

here is a link to a page with a few white homer release folks, they sometimes sell young birds, make sure they are 30 to 40 days old as you can train them to your loft and they will come back to you and not the pre owner, older birds should not be released as they may fly to the pre loft they came from. on the page they are at the bottom under the butterfly release. good luck!:)

Thank you so much Spirit Wings, how kind of you. I will look into that source and thanks for the information about keeping them home:)
