Hi all,
I recently got a new camera (Nikon D300 w/ 18-200 VR lens for the camera geeks :) and have been really enjoying it. I went to the National Zoo in DC last week and got a ton of photos. I uploaded the pigeon ones here:

I also put some discarded dove food in my feeder and it turns out the cardinals LOVE it. I have gotten some shots of daddy feeding their baby that I was happy with, even shot through a screen door.

Hope you enjoy them.

The pictures were wonderful. I didn't realize the zoo had so many of the exotic pigeons there.

My favorite was the cardinal feeding its baby. You don't often see them when they're feeding babies and you caught them at the right moment. We used to rehab songbirds and although I loved all of them, the baby cardinals were extra special. When they are just learning to fly, they will come to you and wiggle all over, wanting to be fed and make the sweetest sound.

The baby was making a beautiful sound. I had never heard it before and had to go see what was making the noise. I've seen cardinals before, but this family has been living at my feeder the last two days. They are certainly enjoying the food more than my doves did!!

It was very neat, they have a huge indoor aviary with a lot of birds flying around. I must have been there for an hour. I really loved the Nicobar pigeon, it was beautiful. The Crowned Pigeon was huge...it was bigger than the duck in that aviary as well.
