Friday, June 29, at dusk a pigeon landed on our front porch in Summerville, SC. Not sure if the bird has a hurt wing or not. It immediately went to water we fed it. It has a green neck and pretty black and white and grey markings on the body. Gave it some bird seeds - safflower and sunflower. Not sure who to call or what to do.

There is no way to trace that kind of band, it is only a snap on band that can be taken off. keep giving water and seeds and see if you can catch him at dark if you know where he goes to roost, they do not see well in the dark so he may beable to be grabbed and put in a carrier. then ask around to see if anyone may know who has pigeons.. but he may be far from home too, so IMO if a keeper does not band his birds so he can be found if one of his birds gets off track or lost then the bird is you'rs and it would be nice if he was not out alone as he is prime target for a hawk.

How can you tell?
That is a good question.. if one is around pigeons allot you get to know by the way they look.. young birds have smooth ceres and eye ceres and their necks are not as developed or thinner.. adults or older pigeons can have larger ceres and a bigger necks esp with cock birds. the bird looks like it could be a young one.
