Hi,
I have a pigeon with a suspected cyst on the front of its neck. It suddenly appeared 2 days ago and now it has a reddish open wound appearance as if the pigeon has been biting it. The earliest vet appointment is 2 weeks away - is there any home treatment I can apply before then to help and any advice on something to cover the cyst to prevent biting such as an old sock?. It must be in some pain.

Thanks for your help.

It may be an injury, a crop burn, or a lesion. A photo would truly help. Placing some betadine or povidone-iodine on the would help as long as it is not bleeding. If it is still bleeding, or is a open hole, it will need a vet urgently to clean and close the wound with a few stitches or surgical NOCA/methylacrylate glue.

A sock may just stress the poor bird too much. Perhaps keep it warm, and inside a dark, padded small box (aside from feeding and watering) to keep it calm instead.
