The pigeons in front of the house laid 2 eggs and sat on it diligently for the past 18 days and we have been observing them with delight but to our shock today they werent sitting on there eggs and have been getting on other ledges and one of pigeons brought a stick to build there too but it's an awful spot for a new nest because of the wind. But why are they abandoning their eggs?? :( And making a new one? Can they lay more than 2 eggs within a span of barely 20 days? Any help is truly appreciated and I'm so thankful <3

Depending on which type of pigeon/dove, incubation of the eggs can be from 11 to 30 days. It's possible that the parents have already determined that the first two eggs aren't viable. If you post a picture of the birds someone might be able to recognize the specific type.

Hi thank you so much for your answer, this is a photo of the pigeon! The male and female look almost virtually identical. We would love to know the incubation period of these pigeons if it's possible. Thank you so much :D

That is a beautiful and healthy-looking member of the species "Columba livia" a.k.a Rock Dove a.k.a. feral pigeon. Average incubation is 18 days, so I'm not sure whether they are giving-up too soon, or if they are certain the eggs aren't viable. How warm is the weather there?
