We have a pet pigeon we rescued and she has been a pet for some time. She is quite sick at the minute, just sits there "wheels up" and sitting in her belly. She has little coughing fits now and then and earlier she coughed up a lot of seed, was sick i guess! I think we have given her the wrong seed and her system is parly blokced with it, all ideas and suggestions mots appreciated. We did not realise about worming but realise now from reading here we probably should work her as well? Many thanks.

Well....let's take this one thing at a time.

1) Is she still doing this ? Does she do it whenever she eats now ?

Can she drink, or does she also throw up water ?

Look inside her mouth and see if you see any phlegm or white or yellow spots or growths.

2) Is she underweight ? A Pigeon riddled with worms will lose weight rapidly.

3) Does her crop seem full ? Does it empty in 3-4 hours time, or does it stay full (it will feel and look like a squishy balloon on her chest).

3) Do you have an avian vet available ? This situation probably calls for one....

It could be crop stasis or it could be that the esophagus is inflamed and not allowing anything down the pipe, so to speak. The former is relatively easily treatable...the latter is a pretty critical situation.....
