I have just started raising racing pigeons and have never been in a race. My question is how is a race done, do your birds fly from one point home or what? Sorry if I sound stupid, but I'm new to this.

OZ, Short version---- You join a club and everyone brings their birds to the club to ship on a race. The birds are all entered in a master clock (either electronic or manual) then they are put on a truck that then goes to all the other clubs and picks up their birds. The truck then drives to a designated point and all the birds are released at the same time. The birds then fly back to each individual loft and a clock at the loft registers their return time. The clock is taken back to the club for recording after the race and the times are figured out. The bird with the fastest YPM (yards per Minute) is declared the winner. Hope this helps.
