Do other fliers mix old birds with young birds when taking them down the road? I have not done this I only take the young birds by themselves 1 mile, 5 miles, 10 miles, 20 miles, and 40 miles. I then release them with my mentors YB 2X 50 miles and once 80 each week until the races start.

The instant that the young birds make a wrong turn or veer of course,, the old birds break and head straight home... Dern near every time.

When do you stop mixing the old birds with the young birds?

I only send the old birds because they are a few birds that I have kept for breeders over the last couple years. Those birds still love to go out and fly so they just go along for the ride. No other reason than that. I don't race old birds. So to answer your question I never really do stop.
