I have found a mourning dove in my backyard that appears sick or injured. Its mate is nearby and flies off when I get close, but the sick/injured one just stays on the low tree branch. He didn't even move as I mowed the lawn, but seems very alert. Anything I can do?? I live in Charleston, SC and it will be VERY cold tomorrow night! Im worried about the little guy!

Please bring the dove in and place it in a cat/dog carrier or a cardboard box with an old towel or T-shirt on the bottom. Put seed and water in the container, and start looking for a rehabber to take the bird. Here's a link to rehabbers for South Carolina: http://www.dnr.sc.gov/wildlife/rehab.html I am having problems with that site, but give it a try. If nothing else, then call them and get a referral.

Please let us know what's happening, and thank you so much for your care and concern for this dove.
