Hi everyone.
I have taken on an orphaned squab....(I'd say about 7 days old) and am wondering if I could give it to my pigeon pair in my aviary to surrogate. They are currently sitting on fake eggs so could I swap the eggs for the squab?? Or is it too old?
I can feed and rear myself but thought it would be nice for my birds to experience parenthood!

Grateful for any advice or experiences.
Thanks!

If you put a strange pigeon on their nest, they will likely attack and injure him. I had one hen in my loft who would mother any baby she could. She was a wonderful hen. But most would not accept a new baby like that.

Hi Jay3,

I actually went ahead and did it under the guidance of someone more experienced than me. Made the swap at night and got up at first light to monitor the response. I can't believe it, but it seems to have worked! Both surrogates have been feeding and caring for it this morning!!

So so happy!!

It's great that they accepted him. You took a big chance on his safety as they could have really injured him.
