Hi all

A while back i posted about the amount of Tapeworms that came out of
my birds when i treated them!

After the 1st treatment i followed up 14 days later and now this week
i again found eggs in my birds droppings.(the eggs look like SMALL
MILLET SEEDS) which i see with the naked eye in theire droppings,
which stil is firm and looks healthy.

3 Races past and i am late!

Some guys says its MALARIA, others say that my birds might be to
HEAVY, which i dont think is the case, could it be the TAPEWORMS ???

What is the best anthelmintic what i should use to get rid of these
worms?

I am not real familiar with the conditions under which pigeons must live in South Africa. I would want to insure that I am treating for the correct thing. Have you sought professional medical advice ? Have the birds been tested ?

If so, then the Dr. would prescribe the correct Rx. Trying to diagnose sickness by way of your written description, and then suggest a Rx, is very tricky business.

If there are no pigeon Dr.'s there, then you best bet might be another local fancier who is sucessful. It would be very helpful to have another set of eyes on the scene.

If you believe there are other problems than the worms I agree with Warren completely. Now, as for your question about the worms being the problem. Yes, If what you are seeing are tapeworm eggs that means the birds have adult worms. If they have tapeworms they will not be at thier best. Anything keeping them from being in perfect health will efect thier performence.

If your birds are getting re-infected you need to eliminate the source.

Sometimes pigeons will get tapeworms/and other worms if they are allowed to forage outside and eat things like snails and other foreign foods, that are not part of their seed/legume/grain program.

It would be wise to seek out the help of a qualified avian vet and have a fecal done, because if this isn't tapeworms then using a wormer may complicate matters.

You should also put garlic in their water a few times a week to keep the numbers down, if you are not.

Maybe you should try different medicines. Those worms may have developed immunity against such drug you are currently using.
