Hello pigeon carers and lovers,

We found a pigeon i think it is about 2 to 3 weeks old. we had it for about a week and it has been going really well, but now it seems as if she is not able to empty her crop anymore. we are concerned about her. we are keeping her warm and feeding her peas, corn, wholemeal bread soked in warm water, and egg. we have looked these things up on other internet sites. please help us out as we really want this pigeon to live. at the moment it is under a blenket with a hot water bottle which we are refilling with hot water whenever neccesary. as well she is squeeking a lot. she looks quite perky though. we haven't got a lot of money unfortunately. we are based in sydney, australia. thanks a lot.

Hi t & t,

Can you post some good, close up, in focus, well lit, images of whatever they have for freshest poops?

No more 'bread' please...no more 'egg'.

Can you get some actual small whole Seeds, such as a Canary or Finch Mix? Also, white Safflower Seeds ( Any Pet Supply Store for these ), and or raw, unsalted, Sunflower Seed 'Hearts'?

Also, can you get some raw, unfiltered, Organic, Apple Cider Vinegar? ( Health Food Stroes would have it, along with the raw Sunflower Seed 'Hearts' )

Images of the Youngster themself, also?

Best wishes!

Hi t & t,

Well, just hold off an any more feed for a day or two, and lets see how things go with is Crop.

Might be he was just a tad over-full there for a while and this may have been pinching or constricting his little Proventriculus ( passage-way of Crop to Stomach ).

We can stay in touch in your Thread here, and, plan for things from there.

If his Crop seems firm instead of 'slushy' allow him to drink some tepid Water.

Just guide is little Beak to it, keeping your finger tips pads on the side of his Beak as he drinks.

But this only as or if his Crop seems to be getting 'firm' instead of 'slushy'...no more chow for the time being.

You do not find any gas or 'air' in his Crop, do you? Does not look like there is any in the images.

Is he quite 'warm' all on his own?

he or she (we would love to know what it is) seems to be keeping himself pretty warm, nonetheless we still keep a hot water bottle in the box as well as kitchen paper and a tea towel. will the little thing not starve if it doesn't get fed? we'll try a little water.
thanks a lot, this is great help. we'll keep you posted.

His Crop is quite full presently...he can coast a while.

Offer tepid Water only if his Crop feels 'firm' instead of 'slushy'...or, come morning, otherwise - being a new thing for him - he may over drink merely out of the novelty of the experience...and, for now, he probably does not need any more contents in his Crop at this time.
