I don't know much cause I don't have homers but pigeon babies are ready to be separated at about 28-32 days old.

I'm pretty new and just now training 12 young birds 35-48 days old.

I feed at 4pm every day
I cut a hole first so they could just walk out into the aviary/landing board, after a week they would sun in the aviary and come in at 4pm with a bell call
I installed the trap and they go through it like it was always there
This Friday we are going to open the door to the aviary, try not to spook them, around 3pm and just let them do what they want then call them into feed with the bell at 4pm(we are not going to feed them Thursday), if all goes well we will take them to the end of the drive way and release them about 100 yards from the loft, if that goes well we will go 500 yards the following week

Please go to the Racing and homing pigeon section, in the PIGEON FOR SPORTS forum. There you will see several threads on training youngsters.

The youngsters should be completely weaned before you move them to the young bird section.
