Yes, I would. I don't put anythig in my birds water that I wouldn't drink.

What i meant was before you put anything on it. I'm trying to figure why so many different advice with water and all the additives given by fanciers. I know there are places that water supply is pretty bad.

I give my birds bottled water or purified from our purifier-(we have well water), and YES I would drink their water, even with a bit of vinegar in it.

yes, I drink from the spicket all the time, I have a well 250 ft deep. why do you ask this question?

Yep . . . we do have well water but all my critters get their water from the RO on the kitchen sink

Any source of water deemed fit for Human consumption is fine for any Animal, in fact ours is real hard... Gee, a good source of Minerals... Dave

You bring up an interesting point. Typical garden hoses are labeled with a warning against drinking from them because of possible chemical leach out from the lining. To fill the coop drinkers, we bought a white hose intended for use with RVs which is safe for drinkable water.

I wondered about this...
Because of the chemical & lead warnings I only use the hose for washing down the loft floor, not for their drinking water. But it would be so much easier in the summer to use the hose for drinking and bath water too.

Thanks for the tip Terri - I'll look for a white RV hose when we replace ours.

Oh, and I would definitely drink the water I give my birds. Even with garlic or vinegar in it. I sometimes put ACV in a glass of water for myself and drink it, so why not?

I have used Good old Garden hose for my animals all my life. The only thing i do is if it is brand new, I use it else where for a few Days. Dave

I gave mine bottled water because I hate our tap water here. Our tap water taste bitter. So depending where you are, you can drink it. Some area have nice tap water taste. I drink that without any problem. Now, for garlic water, I drink it, too. They even have those garlic tea. Vinegar with water--that sounds more like sinigang recipe. LOL! So what is good for me is good for my pigeons. I prefer prevention than cure.


Some garden hoses have this warning that they should not be used for consumption. The reason is that they contain lead and lead can cause cancer. Higher brand without lead obviously is the one that is safe for drinking. Just read the labels. Obviously back in Asia you drink well water. We have no running water there for a long time. But because we live near the beach, it taste saltier.

Just my opinion, I used to be in the Nursery Bizz. and i never saw a label warning about the Lead content of hoses... It would be Lawsuit city, Little kids in the yard would drink it, even those to Young to read. Dave

Obviously back in Asia you drink well water. We have no running water there for a long time. But because we live near the beach, it taste saltier.

This is what I'm trying to get at... some tap water are considered hard due to high mineral contents and some down right taste funny that you won't drink it. Some area have tap water chlorinated, some are put through an osmosis or some other type of filtration.

I'm amazed that people give their birds bottled or purified water. Is your water source that bad?

With water sources being different from each area.. is this why some fancier use so much vitamins, meds, etc for their birds?

My birds down right love drinking their plain water... they seem to consume alot more compared when I have ACV, medication, vitamins and/ or electrolytes mixed in.

Well, i will not get caught up in the additive issue. I use none, but tap water is fine. As long as they get good Nutrition.
