Hello all,

So I will explain the short of it, and then the long of it after. My pij has some very odd looking feathers, as of several days ago. I have had to give him intermittent baths as he has stopped grooming himself due to issues with pain from several broken bones. Below is his story as of the last several months. I am bringing his feathers up because I'd like to know what's causing them to look as they do, perhaps it can shed some more light on his condition.

Several months ago I posted about my pij Zeek who has suddenly dropped a lot of weight, wasn't preening, or cooing (despite trying to coo). We took him in to see a specialist, and it seemed like brittle and broken bones that we weren't even aware he had were causing a lot of pain, and made it really difficult for him to continue carrying on normally. We placed him on pain meds, and he gained weight, and got better. As per his specialist's suggestion, we weaned him off of his pain medication. His first few days off the meds were rough, but he definitely got better. Now, his condition isn't improving anymore, and he's stopped preening again, so we restarted the pain meds with what we had left from his vet. It's been a rollercoaster ride for our little sweet man, I just want him to be better.

Phoebes feathers looked like that when she was sick but I think hers were due to rubbing them against things while I was encouraging her to exercise. Hope your wonderful, bird is all better soon. I know how much you have done to care for him.
