It's easier on the parents if they aren't feeding 5 week old youngsters in one nest and newly hatched squabs in another nest.Also I believe that the newly hatched squabs do better if the parents aren't feeding older youngsters that should be eating and drinking on their own. I usually move them to a weaning pen when they are about 4 weeks old.
