I feed a flock of ~30-40 wild pigeons, and 2 days ago I noticed this very tired looking bird that was struggling to swallow food. He was very fluffed up, and looking quite lathargic. I did a lot of research, and I'm pretty certain it's canker.

Yesterday he came back and my mum suggested offering him some oats soaked in warm water. He did try to eat them, but it was mostly just stuck at the back of his mouth, although I believe he did swallow a few. I tried offering him a bowl of water as well, but he wasnt interested.

I havent caught him yet, but I think I'd be able to, and my mum refuses to bring him to the vet because she doesnt want to pay for a wild bird. Is there anything I can do for him?

Plse catch him. They drink quite a lot when they have canker. Ask amongst friends and family if they have any leftover metronidazole. Human meds can be used for pigeons. I will help with the dosage if you can get.

Thank you both for your suggestions, unfortunately he didn't show up today, but I'm not too concerned/stressed as it was extremely windy and not many birds were around anyways.

I am a bit worried about the rest the flock getting sick though. I'm going to properly clean the feeders and the bird bath, as well as putting some apple cider vinegar in the water.
Is there anything else I can do as a preventative for the other pigeons?
