i have a young bird who isalmost 2 months old and today i noticed that it was mating already and the weird part about it is that it was mating with its father which not only is still mated to its mother but they just had an egg hatch yesterday. Is this normal and how young is a bird able to start mating because i feel this is to young.

You just miss read what was going on... Do not Worry about it. Dave
young birds

how did i miss read it it looked like they were mating they did the kissing part then the father mounted the baby it looked very much like they were mating
SO..... The Father Mounted the Baby? Just a Horney Cock Bird, He will stop as the Young get bigger... Dave
I have observed the same one time at my loft. I call it practice. LOL! They didn't end up as a couple. I think it is one of those thing that kids try to imitate adults. Yes, that was mating, but don't worry because it takes 120 days or 4 months before pigeons can have viable sperms or eggs. I even had 2 months old trying to mate with each other. I even had cocks that try to mate with all my hens. That bird is a "player." I even had 3 birds on top of each others trying to mate. It is just hilarious.
what does mount mean, lol just for interest.

I have seen that with a one of my father birds, the youngster is a hen, the father did this a couple of times, while he was caring for her. Once she matured and was no longer under his care, that ended.

When the male mounts the hen, he sits on top of her ( sort of) , and that is the act of mating.
Treesa,

You are too secretive. There is more to mounting than meets the eye, but since the poster is only 14, I am not saying anything further. Hehehe.....
Rod, LOL! Dave
My favorite that I heard on here is it is when they are "Vent Kissing" LOL!! LOL!!
Yeah! That one is still The most P.C. way of putting it. Still cracks me up when i think about it.:D:D:D:D Dave

You're too much! LOL.
Actually, my latest babies, siblings, were doing this at less than 2 months old. And that is exactly what they were doing. And they weren't imitating the older birds, as they had been in the house since about 2 weeks old. Must be instinctive.
