Getting a Pigeon soon

My parents decided to let me get 2 pigeons in awhile. I am wondering if you can have 2 of the same sex pigeons be a pair, as BFF's. I'm fairly certain that laying eggs for pigeons can have problems and I was wondering if I could avoid this.

No, its unavoidable unless you get 2 males, but the problem is they will probably fight a lot.
Its better to acquire a male and a female if you want them to be happy.
If they lay eggs in future just replace them with fake ones.
Its very simple, if you really want them.

Good Luck

I have two male Doves, and yes they are prone to fighting with each other, so they are housed in separate, large cages, side by side. They do everything ‘together’ this way - preening, eating, playing, etc - and bow-coo and laugh to each other a lot.

They also have lots and lots of out-of-cage time with me and are both very bonded to me. So I would say that if you have lots of time to spend with them, and can also house them safely but still ‘together’ enough for bird-bird companionship, you could make two males work. Particularly if you are not comfortable with euthanising potential babies, or having two egg-laying females.

Having said that, it may well be the case they wouldn’t be as happy as they could be if each were partnered with a female. But from what I’ve read, it seems male-female pairings can sometimes be fraught as well.
